The Four-Tails: King of the Sage Monkeys

The Four-Tails slams the Eight-Tails down and clamps its jaws shut with Naruto trapped inside, all under the Nine-Tails' gaze. Guy longs to rescue him, but Kakashi notes they are pinned between the Six-Tails' corrosive Wisdom Wolf Decay and the chakra arms of the other jinchuriki. Kakashi's shadow clone cuts the arms apart while Guy blasts away the gas. The Eight-Tails coils its tentacles around the Four-Tails and demands it release Naruto, then presses the Nine-Tails about the boy, only to hear that the fox will not aid its host as readily as the Eight-Tails does. The Nine-Tails broods on the many shinobi who chained it and denied it a name. Inside the closed mouth, Naruto finds the Four-Tails bound in chains, insisting on being addressed properly with a grand introduction. Naruto's apology for ignoring Son Goku wins its regard, and the two speak of identity and being acknowledged. When Naruto admits he envies the rapport between B and the Eight-Tails, the ape laughs until it sees he means it. Judging Naruto a welcome change from Tobi, Son Goku offers his aid if the boy can loosen its chains.

Kakashi and Guy fend off the Six-Tails' decay and the jinchuriki's chakra arms. The Eight-Tails restrains the Four-Tails and questions the Nine-Tails about helping Naruto. Naruto meets the chained Son Goku and apologizes, earning its respect. Their talk of recognition and identity leads Son Goku to offer help if Naruto frees it.

The chapter appears in Volume 60 during the Fourth Shinobi World War: Climax arc, published in Japan in 2012. The exchange finally gives the Four-Tails a name and a personality, deepening the theme of tailed beasts craving acknowledgment.
