Summary
Following the Akatsuki gathering, Kisame wonders aloud whether Itachi feels any grief at being the final Uchiha now that Sasuke has supposedly died. Itachi corrects him, insisting Sasuke is alive and adding that it would make no difference even if he were not. Sasuke himself, meanwhile, recovers alongside the rest of Hebi after his duel with Deidara.
Team 7 and Team 8 reach the ruins of that battle, catch Sasuke's scent, and set off in pursuit. In another location, a hidden figure cautions Pain about the strength Naruto will bring to bear when the group moves against the Nine-Tails. As he leaves, the figure pledges that their ambitions, including the return of his own Sharingan, are close at hand, identifying himself as Madara Uchiha, formerly going by Tobi.
