Suna Suna no Mi

Drawing its meaning from suna, the Japanese word for sand, this Logia power lets whoever eats it shape and become sand at will, marking them the Sand Human. Crocodile, once a Warlord and the hidden head of Baroque Works, is its owner. The ability crept in quietly at first, drying a flower in a glass mid-conversation with Sanji at Little Garden, then showed its full face against Puppu's crew, and finally earned its name when Crocodile slipped free of an attack from Nefertari Vivi. English releases title it the Sand-Sand Fruit, and the fruit itself looks like a tan barrel cactus with stubby raised arms and a T-shaped green stem.

Crocodile can dissolve his body into sand, so that strikes lacking Armament Haki and any non-Seastone projectile pass clean through him, and he takes flight by trailing his lower half into streams of drifting sand. Being a Logia, he conjures sand in enormous quantity, molding blades of every size, sweeping sandstorms that carry for miles, and whirling pits that drag foes beneath the surface, all of it amplified in a desert where loose grains lie everywhere. A second, rarer gift is dehydration: at a touch he drains the water from a person, a plant, or a broad tract of land, leaving withered husks and crumbling stone he then reduces to fresh sand. That dryness renders him immune to cave-ins and lets him offset his own elemental weakness in arid country. His weakness is liquid. Water or blood clumps his sand into a solid mass and briefly cancels his intangibility, the surface tension of wet sand pinning him down, though the effect proves oddly uneven depending on how the moisture reaches him. Beyond that, the ordinary Devil Fruit drawbacks apply.

Crocodile boasts of having honed the power to perfection, forming his sand into a whole armory of weapons and rarely fearing any opponent who cannot truly hurt him. He called himself invincible on desert ground, which fueled his scheme to seize Arabasta: he quietly parched its towns with his storms and hoarded its rainfall with forbidden Dance Powder, strangling the land toward civil war. He pairs his gold-alloy hook with the fruit, melting into sand to close in before re-forming to swing it, and even stretches his arm into flowing sand to lengthen the hook's reach. His moves include the ground-splitting Desert Spada, the quicksand-forming Desert Girasole, the moisture-stealing Barjan, his signature sand tornado Sables, and the sweeping dehydration of Ground Secco and Ground Death.
