Marshall D. Teach, better known as Blackbeard, wields this Logia fruit of darkness, which he stole from Thatch after murdering him. Its shadow behaves like gravity, swallowing everything it touches, and it can strip other Devil Fruit users of their powers on contact, a trait called the most evil of all.
Rated a Logia even though it defies the type's usual logic, this fruit lets its holder generate, command, and become darkness, making him a Darkness Human. Blackbeard acquired it by killing the fourth-division commander of the Whitebeard crew, Thatch, and taking the fruit for himself. Even among Logia it is regarded as one of a kind, and its power carries the label of being the wickedest of any Devil Fruit. Translations call it the Dark-Dark Fruit, and the fruit itself is a large, round, pale purple thing built from many teardrop-shaped lobes crowned with green leaves, so that it looks like an oversized pineapple or a cluster of swollen grapes.
The darkness works like gravity, spilling out as a black smoke that drags in and crushes anything near it, letting the user swallow matter and attacks alike or haul an opponent toward him regardless of their footing. In the manner of a black hole it pulls things into a vortex, but rather than annihilating them it seems to bank them in some interior space; Blackbeard once devoured a whole town and later spat out the wreckage battered yet not erased, with living captives surviving in shock. Its rarest trait is nullification: by touching any Devil Fruit user, Paramecia, Zoan, or Logia, he cancels their powers utterly, hitting Logia hardest since they lose their intangibility. The great price is that the same devouring darkness denies him a Logia's escape, so blows do not phase through him and in fact wound him worse than normal, and the nullification lasts only while he keeps his hand on the victim.
Teach alone holds this fruit, and he leans on it for combat above all, beating his former commander Ace despite the searing might of the Mera Mera no Mi. He favors two tactics: flooding the ground with shadow to snare and crush targets, then flinging the debris back out, and combining the pull of gravity with his power to void Devil Fruit defenses so a captured foe can be finished with a plain punch. Signature moves include Black Hole, which spreads his darkness wide to swallow and grind whatever he chooses, its follow-up Liberation, which expels the ruined remains at once, and Kurouzu, in which he thrusts out an arm to reel an enemy into striking range. Later, from Whitebeard's body, he claimed a second fruit, the quake-based Gura Gura no Mi, boasting that joining the power that reduces all to nothing with the power that shatters all made him unstoppable.

When I first decided to commit to watching One Piece seriously, I knew I was embarking on one of anime's longest and most beloved series. With over 100...

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
The Yami Yami no Mi is a Logia Devil Fruit that lets its user generate, control, and become darkness, which behaves like gravity and swallows anything it touches, and it also lets him nullify other Devil Fruit users' powers on contact.
Blackbeard wanted the Yami Yami no Mi for its rare ability to nullify other Devil Fruit users' powers on contact, and he obtained it by murdering Thatch, the Whitebeard Pirates' fourth division commander, and taking the fruit for himself.
Blackbeard's Yami Yami no Mi denies him the intangibility that other Logia fruits grant, so attacks do not pass through him and actually wound him worse than a normal person, making it his key physical weakness.
The Yami Yami no Mi is not explicitly named the strongest Devil Fruit in the series, but it is described as the wickedest of all Devil Fruits because of its unique power to nullify any other Devil Fruit user's abilities.
The Yami Yami no Mi does not steal Devil Fruits outright, but by touching another Devil Fruit user, Blackbeard can cancel their powers completely for as long as the contact lasts, an effect that hits Logia users hardest since they lose their intangibility.
