Alan is a lanky man with messy hair and big round glasses. His stage costume is a gray tunic over purple cutoff overalls, while off the stage he favors a long-sleeved shirt and dark trousers.
He is devoted to his acting troupe and pours real effort into his performances. He also has a soft spot for beautiful women, falling instantly for Nami, and he is sincerely thankful to the Straw Hats for filling in when the troupe is short-handed.
Alan was rehearsing when Lola quit the troupe, and he was promptly charmed when Nami volunteered to take her place. During the show he gently corrected an overacting Robin and reminded her the play was no musical, only for her to walk off. When the Straw Hats' antics wrecked the set, he was relieved to see Randolph appear in his hero role. At intermission he reviewed his lines and, with the others, told the crew about Randolph's past. He cheered Randolph on against Luffy, panicked when a shelf collapsed, and was baffled when Commander Governor showed up firing warning shots and accusing Randolph of selling stolen weapons to pirates. After Luffy freed Randolph, Alan and his castmates cushioned his fall, and at Luffy's urging they finished the play, with Alan watching nervously through the final fight scene.
