Asla dwarfed ordinary horses and stood even taller than Harald, a giant carrying ancient giant blood. Two unusual traits set it apart: eight legs rather than four, and a blazing mane that ran in two even halves down its spine. Draped across its back was a blanket marked on the front with the royal crest of Elbaph.

Judging by how calmly it behaved among the giants, the creature was well broken in and rarely caused any difficulty.
History
Sheer scale made Asla a fitting mount for even the largest giants, including King Harald with his ancient lineage, and the horse was credited with carrying tremendous strength and speed along with the fortune its title implied. More than seventy years before the present, Estrid presented the animal to Harald as a wedding gift. About sixty-three years ago, soon after Loki was born, Asla perished, and the people of Elbaph came to believe the infant prince was responsible. Its eight-legged design echoes Sleipnir, the steed of Odin in Norse myth.
