History

Balloon can take flight even while hauling someone as heavy as Luffy in his beak, and his blood is hinted to hold magical power. He and Ann became inseparable, but once Shupeal learned of the bird he razed their entire town to seize him, forcing the pair to flee. Shupeal later captured Ann to use as bait and shot Balloon, who still managed to escape into the air.

Wounded and aloft, Balloon crashed onto Luffy's dinghy and punched a hole through it, which Luffy promptly plugged with the bird as Shupeal's ship drew near. Brought aboard and locked in a cage, Balloon watched Luffy and Ann get thrown into the brig. Ann eventually broke free, retrieved the key to his cage, and was on the verge of releasing him when Shupeal shot her from behind. After Luffy defeated the villain, Shupeal snatched Balloon, leashed him with a rope, and fled skyward while destroying the ship. Luffy hurled himself onto the bird's back, sprang to Shupeal's broomstick, and severed the rope so Balloon could break loose, then knocked the villain away. Free at last, Balloon carried Luffy back to the wreckage in his beak and reunited with Ann before the two flew off together.
