Appearance

Short and thickset, Bege carries himself with the air of a mob boss. His hair is slicked back and oiled, his stare is hard, and a hooked, beak-shaped nose sharpens his features, with light stubble over his lip. He favors black-and-white pinstripes, a green scarf tucked into the suit like a cravat, and a fortune in jeweled rings worn on every finger, thumbs included. A captain's coat trimmed in red and gold plus a fedora come out only for travel, and a cigar is rarely far from his mouth except at meals. Following the two-year gap, a heavy goatee filled in his jaw and a darker hat replaced the old one; on Zou he wore shaded glasses resembling Pekoms', and from the Whole Cake events onward a rose adorned his lapel.

Personality

For all his pirate notoriety and gangster past, Bege keeps up a polished, formal front that suits his mafia roots. He dines well, dresses sharply, and cannot abide poor manners or filth, going so far as to make guests and even foes clean themselves before he will sit with them. Calm and willing to negotiate when undisturbed, he turns vicious the moment he is provoked, and he has stabbed his own men for hesitating. Beneath the manners lies a genuinely sadistic streak: he beheads animals for amusement and delights in toppling the powerful and watching the bloody scramble that follows, caring only for treasure and carnage. He is cunning and opportunistic above all, quick to take hostages, bluff, or shoot a rival in the back, yet Chiffon notes he always keeps his word. Fatherhood softened him somewhat, and he openly dotes on his son and wife while still bristling at being called a good man.

History

Bege grew powerful in the West Blue, where he commanded one of its Five Families, the crime dynasties that dominated the region. He built infamy by killing rival bosses while sparing their crews, content to steal their riches and watch the power struggles he left behind. The Shiro Shiro no Mi turned his own body into a walking fortress packed with cannons, subordinates, and a castle interior, and with it he fended off every enemy who came for revenge. Bored with land, he put to sea with his gang as the Fire Tank Pirates and entered the Grand Line, eventually reaching Sabaody as one of the Supernovas. He escaped the war era, and during the timeskip wandered into Big Mom's waters and was beaten. Rather than defy her, he swore allegiance, married her twenty-second daughter Charlotte Chiffon, and fathered Capone Pez, rising to the rank of rook combatant.

That loyalty was a mask. Tasked alongside the Big Mom Pirates with retrieving Caesar Clown and delivering Sanji, he gunned down Pekoms on Zou and hauled the captured Straw Hats inside his body. On Whole Cake Island he set his real aim in motion, recruiting the heart-bound Caesar and forming an uneasy alliance with Luffy through Jinbe. His plan hinged on shattering a portrait of Mother Carmel to break Big Mom's resilience, then striking while she screamed. The assassination failed, forcing his crew to retreat inside his giant Big Father form as the Emperor battered it in fury. He escaped the chateau, rescued Chiffon from Oven by shooting him from afar, and parted from the Straw Hats, annoyed that the press credited Luffy as the mastermind of the whole scheme.
