Phantom Thief Carina is a non-canon schemer from One Piece Film: Gold and Heart of Gold. Posing as a songstress in the glittering Gran Tesoro, she secretly plots to seize the entire pleasure-ship for herself, and after helping the Straw Hats topple Gild Tesoro, she ends up its new master.
Carina is a slender young woman of nineteen whose pale purple hair is gathered into a chignon above blue eyes. Her wardrobe shifts constantly with her cons, ranging from a star-accented white bikini in Tesoro's golden hot tub to a one-shouldered black and yellow stage gown, a backless halter dress with a feather boa, and a leather spy suit with a blue zipper, gloves, and boots. When meeting the Straw Hats discreetly she swaps to a button-up shirt with suspenders, shorts, and a hat. Her Stampede cameo gives her a shorter styled bob and a sleeveless plum dress, while flashbacks to her teen years show her with cropped hair and plain shirt and trousers.
Much like Nami, Carina is a greedy, cunning thief who will do anything to reach treasure. Even after the lavish life she gained as a Gran Tesoro performer, she stays unsatisfied and orchestrates an elaborate coup to claim the ship outright. Her thieving instincts never fade, and she bristles whenever her skill is doubted or, worse, when Nami actually picks her pocket. Selfish and deceitful, she once used Nami as a decoy to flee Mad Treasure and faked Gran Tesoro's destruction to keep its riches, yet she is not heartless: she circles back to save Nami and is visibly sickened by Tesoro's cruelty toward those in his debt. She often leans on her looks to distract guards, true to her motto that girls need brains to survive, and laughs with a signature Ushishi.
As a former rival and sometime friend of Nami, Carina once broke into Mad Treasure's safe, was caught alongside her, and escaped by abandoning her, only to return and lure the Treasure Pirates away so both could survive. Years later she rises to songstress and main performer of Gran Tesoro's Gold Stella Show beside Gild Tesoro, all while quietly working to overthrow him. A masterful liar and actress, she plays double agent, convincing Tesoro she is leading the Straw Hats into a trap while in truth she springs the trap on him. With their help she floods the city-ship with seawater to break Tesoro's gold control over the populace, and after Luffy defeats him she stages a fake self-destruct countdown, tearfully tricking Nami into evacuating so she alone can sail off commanding Gran Tesoro and its share of the world's wealth. She later resurfaces in Stampede, entering the Miss Pirate contest only to lose to Nami.

When I first decided to commit to watching One Piece seriously, I knew I was embarking on one of anime's longest and most beloved series. With over 100...

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
