Chao

Chao is a fair-skinned dwarf crowned with puffy red hair, rendered brown in the anime, and his large nose points upward above a chipped tooth. His outfit pairs a black-and-white striped shirt with yellow suspendered trousers, a pink tie at the collar, and a set of goggles pushed up onto his forehead.

Chao shares the trusting nature common to his people, swallowing the Factory staff's lie that his princess could not be healed. Curiosity sets him a little apart from his fellows, though, and he risked a whipping by asking after the wellbeing of those in Dressrosa and Green Bit.

Chao counts among the five hundred dwarves who were abducted and made to labor inside the SMILE Factory. Despite a strength that lets him hoist many times his own weight, he buckled under a massive tank of SAD, drawing the whip from a staffer who demanded he move faster. When gladiators from the Corrida Colosseum pressed Trebol and Diamante outside, Chao and the others were kept hauling unfinished SMILE fruits. His question about Dressrosa and Green Bit earned him another lashing, and that cruelty helped tip the dwarves into open revolt.

Once the rebellion turned, Chao got his own back, whirling his abuser through the air with a Tontatta Combat technique called Tontatta Swing. The dwarves found their princess Mansherry missing and were nearly vacuumed up by Kyuin before they unlocked the doors to let Franky in, then watched in astonishment as the cyborg grappled and even kissed Kyuin during his fight with Senor Pink. After Franky won, the dwarves tore the Factory down, and Chao wept with joy at his freedom. They carried the wounded Franky out, fled the shrinking Birdcage, and used the indestructible Factory to help hold it back. When Luffy felled Doflamingo, they rejoiced, saluted Kyros, and afterward harried the pursuing Marines by stealing their weapons. As Leo's group formed a pirate crew, Chao stitched new clothes for them and joined in rebuilding Dressrosa.
