Franky, the Iron Man, is the cyborg shipwright of the Straw Hat Pirates and a senior officer of the Grand Fleet. Born Cutty Flam in the South Blue, he rebuilt himself with machinery after a near-fatal injury, and he built the Thousand Sunny to chase his dream of sailing a ship around the world.
Decades of dismantling ships, hunting bounties, and brawling in the streets left Franky a hulking figure who stands over seven feet, third in height among the crew behind Jinbe and Brook. His forearms balloon to enormous size while his biceps stay modest, and his chest carries heavy slabs of muscle. Vivid blue hair and blue star tattoos mark him, along with long stern brows, a sharply clefted three-pointed chin, and a riveted iron nose, the one piece of his outer shell left without artificial skin. Before the Puffing Tom crash, his forearms were ordinary and his nose and chin unbroken, all later rebuilt in metal.
His usual getup pairs swim briefs with an unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt and a thick gold chain, a look so revealing that strangers call him a pervert. He rarely covers up, and resents anyone tampering with the outfit. Across the saga his shirts shift color and his costumes change constantly, from a tiger-skin wrap after a lab explosion scorched his face, to Wano workman coats, to a fur-lined Viking ensemble gifted on Elbaph where he grew out a long beard.
Franky's mechanical frame is the source of both his power and his quirks. Concealing himself shuts off his hardware: long sleeves block the weapons set into his arms, a fastened shirt seals his chest panels, trousers lock the features in his legs, and footwear is pointless since his iron-hard feet need no protection. So he strips down for combat or wears specially built clothes that transform with him. He always shields his back, however, since that flesh-and-blood patch is the only spot he cannot reach to upgrade, and it remains his weakest point. His exposed body also leaves him prone to the cold.
During his two years alone he used Vegapunk's blueprints to overhaul himself completely, mending old damage and swapping in stronger systems. He can restyle his hair on command by holding his nose for several seconds, and his eyes are now lenses fitted over robotic ones beneath. His shoulders bear large ball-and-socket joints labeled BF-37, his forearms became big light-blue cubes housing fresh upgrades, and inside his oversized hands sit a second set of normal-sized robotic ones. His grandest creation, General Franky, is the mecha he pilots in his original pompadour form.
Born in the South Blue to Scien, the infamous scientist-pirate later known as Queen of the Beasts Pirates, the boy was cast aside by his parents at age ten. He eventually drifted to Water 7. Christened Cutty Flam, he went by his nickname Franky and ultimately gave up his birth name entirely at Iceburg's urging to bury his identity. He apprenticed as a shipwright under Tom's Workers until a doomed bid to spare his mentor Tom from the World Government left his body wrecked, forcing him to remake himself as a cyborg. Back in Water 7 he took charge of the Franky Family, a band of ship-breakers and bounty hunters.
He and his crew first stood against the Straw Hats as antagonists of the Water 7 Arc before circumstances turned them into allies through Enies Lobby. Driven by a dream to construct a vessel and circle the globe in it, Franky built the Thousand Sunny and signed on with Luffy, becoming the eighth crewmate and the seventh to join at the close of the Post-Enies Lobby Arc. His role in the Enies Lobby incident earned a 44,000,000 Berry bounty, which climbed to 94,000,000 after Dressrosa and then to 394,000,000 following the raid on Onigashima.

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
