Appearance

True to his name, this soldier has a head shaped like an eggplant, crowned with black hair resembling the vegetable's stem. His tan face holds tiny beady eyes, a wide mouth with thick lips, and a nose tapered like a falling drop, with a bit of stubble on his chin. For attire he wears purple armor over a yellow bodysuit, brown gloves and boots, and a green sombrero, with a spear lashed across his back by a pink belt.

Personality

Friendly and good-hearted, Eggplant Soldier took clear pleasure in helping Sanji try to win Pudding over. He is steadfastly loyal to the Charlotte Family and obediently kept watch on the cook as ordered, yet he is hopelessly careless, prone to dozing off mid-shift and even drifting back to sleep after catching himself at it. He has a verbal tic of ending his sentences with "Nasu," the Japanese word for eggplant, and the anime gives him a taste for eating the vegetable as well.

History

In the anime, Eggplant Soldier first turns up patrolling the chateau halls, where he and another guard remark on Big Mom's unusually happy mood and tie it to the coming wedding. Once Sanji resolved to impress Pudding, the soldier assisted him, suggesting the courtyard when the cook asked where to find flowers and offering to lead the way, though Sanji went off on his own.

Returning from a grocery run, Eggplant Soldier reported to Sanji that Luffy and Nami had been captured and that Brook and a mink were causing chaos, only for Sanji to cut him short and ask for the ingredients so he could cook for the ailing Pudding. Later that night, with Sanji gone, the soldier fell asleep in his bed, causing a Chess Soldier to wrongly report the cook as present; he woke in a panic, then simply went back to sleep. The next morning, in the anime, Mont-d'Or's pounding at the door sent him into a fresh panic over the missing Sanji, until the cook slipped back through the window and asked him to help cover the lie. Eggplant Soldier gladly vouched that Sanji had been there all night, sweating under Mont-d'Or's repeated questioning until Sanji stepped in to end the interrogation.
