Ruled by the Emperor Charlotte Linlin, the woman most people call Big Mom, the Big Mom Pirates govern the nation of Totto Land from their seat on Whole Cake Island. Their bid to seize the world beside Kaidou ended when their captain fell at Onigashima.
At the head of this fearsome crew sits Charlotte Linlin, a former member of the Four Emperors whom the world knows simply as Big Mom. The nation she reigns over as queen is Totto Land, a mighty realm whose central island, Whole Cake Island, doubles as the crew's headquarters. Seeking to dominate the world, Linlin struck a bargain with the Beasts Pirates, joining forces with Kaidou toward that shared ambition.
That plan unraveled during the Raid on Onigashima, where two of the Worst Generation, Eustass Kid and Trafalgar Law, brought Linlin down. With her defeat, she was stripped of her Emperor status, and the crew's overall standing was left uncertain. Across earlier chapters they served as minor foes during the Fish-Man Island, Dressrosa, and Zou arcs, before rising to become the principal foes throughout the Whole Cake Island story.
Led by an Emperor, the crew counted among the four strongest pirate forces anywhere, with numerous members proven capable of downing infamous rookies, including Caribou and several of the Worst Generation. Big Mom's power to house souls inside animals and objects gives her endless legions of warriors called Homies, who can overwhelm even powerful intruders, especially on home ground in Totto Land. Fear of losing her favor was enough to make the Sun Pirates, a strong fish-man crew, flee rather than risk her wrath.
The crew agreed to their alliance with the Beasts Pirates in order to take over the world, but the scheme collapsed at Onigashima. There, while Kaidou's forces crumbled, Kid and Law struck down Big Mom herself, ending her reign as an Emperor and throwing the future of her sprawling organization into doubt.
Charlotte Linlin captains the crew, and her top enforcers are the Three Sweet Commanders, the officers with the greatest authority and combat power beneath her. The current trio comprises her second son Katakuri, her fourteenth daughter Smoothie, and her tenth son Cracker. Earlier there were Four Sweet Commanders, including the twenty-fifth son Snack, who was demoted after losing twice to Urouge and Eustass Kid.
The commanders wield tremendous strength; Katakuri made short work of Germa 66's Vinsmoke Ichiji, while Cracker defeated Urouge, who had himself bested Snack. Beyond them, Linlin's many children and retainers, such as Perospero, Smoothie's fellow officers, and longtime servants like Tamago and Pekoms, fill out a crew that functions as both a pirate armada and the ruling family of a nation.
