Dr. Vegapunk, hailed as the man with the finest brain in the world, was the lead scientist of the World Government and the inventor behind the Pacifista, Seraphim, and countless breakthroughs. He split his consciousness into six satellites and met his end during the Egghead Incident.
Vegapunk was a lean, elderly man who stood just shorter than Jinbe, with red cheeks, a long sliced-looking head crowned by an apple-core fixture, and a tongue so absurdly long it hung down to his groin. A bald crown gave way to spiky white hair at the sides and a heavy mustache, and he dressed in a short white coat marked SSG, a red-spotted pink shirt, and purple trousers. His look stemmed from his Devil Fruit: the Nomi Nomi no Mi let his brain hold endless information but swelled his head ever larger as he learned, until at one point it neared the size of a giant's. To manage this, he carved out his cranium, stored it within Punk Records three years prior, and fitted an antenna in its place.
From boyhood Vegapunk was a giving soul devoted to his island's people, and Karakuri Island still reveres him and awaits his return. The truest window into his character is the set of six satellites he created, each embodying a single facet of him: Shaka his morality and pride, Lilith his thieving malice, York his greed, Edison and Pythagoras his thought and wisdom, and Atlas his temper. The conflict between these sides was real, yet at his core he was a man of deep compassion and conscience, which is why the upright Shaka led the others. Much like Dragon, he despised the corruption festering under the World Government's rule, though he chose to look away from it. His lifelong dream was to convert the world's boundless energy into usable power and so erase one of war's root causes.
Born sixty-five years ago in Baldimore on Karakuri Island, Vegapunk built robotic animals and dreamed up endless inventions as a child, once trying to warm the island with modified beasts before funds ran short. By fourteen he had eaten the Nomi Nomi no Mi, and by his mid-twenties he had already drawn the Five Elders' attention. He helped found the rogue research team MADS alongside Judge, Caesar Clown, Queen, and Buckingham Stussy, discovered the Lineage Factor, and produced a clone of Stussy. After joining the World Government he became famous for Devil Fruit research and for proving that Seastone suppresses Devil Fruit powers, oversaw Punk Hazard and Egghead, and stood second only to the Five Elders in command of the Pacifista and Seraphim. During the Egghead Incident he revealed his satellites and his vision of a free worldwide database and limitless energy, weathered Bonney's fury over her father Kuma, and was betrayed from within by York. As a government Buster Call leveled his life's work, Saturn impaled him and Kizaru struck the fatal blow. As his heart stopped, a message he had recorded began broadcasting to the entire world, promising to share a hidden truth, and his body was carried off by the fleeing Straw Hats. Though Stella, the original, was killed, his surviving satellites reconvened into a single rebuilt Vegapunk.

When I first decided to commit to watching One Piece seriously, I knew I was embarking on one of anime's longest and most beloved series. With over 100...

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
Dr. Vegapunk, the original body known as Stella, died during the Egghead Incident after Jaygarcia Saturn impaled him and Kizaru delivered the finishing blow. His consciousness survived by dispersing into satellites, and his surviving satellites later reconvened into a single rebuilt Vegapunk.
Dr. Vegapunk was fundamentally a compassionate, conscientious man who despised the corruption within the World Government, even though he chose to look away from it. His personality was split among six satellites representing different traits, but his moral core, embodied by the satellite Shaka, led the others.
Dr. Vegapunk was killed during a government Buster Call on Egghead Island when Jaygarcia Saturn impaled him and Kizaru struck the fatal blow, after his own creation York had already betrayed him from within.
No, Dr. Vegapunk does not betray Luffy. Instead, he was betrayed by his own satellite York, and after his death the Straw Hats carried his body away from Egghead rather than turning against him.
Yes, Dr. Vegapunk ate the Nomi Nomi no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that let his brain absorb endless information while his head grew larger with each thing he learned.
