Appearance

Dark-skinned, bald, and mustached, Ganzo dresses for his trade in a blue-spotted black bandanna, a pale yellow shirt, and brown trousers, with a three-paneled dark blue apron carrying his shop's name held up by red suspenders. In his youth he kept the same spotted bandanna and red suspenders, but his skin ran lighter, his shirt was a richer yellow, and he wore dark blue shorts with flip-flop sandals.

History

As boys, Ganzo and Woonan argued over whether gold could truly bring happiness, Ganzo insisting it could not. Their scuffle sent them tumbling off a cliff, both clinging to Woonan's pirate flag. Realizing how much the banner meant to his friend and that Woonan could not hold on much longer, Ganzo let go so the flag would survive and Woonan could climb to safety. A passing ship rescued him, but by the time he woke Woonan had already set off to become a pirate, and the two never reunited. Years later, when Ganzo, Tobio, and the Straw Hats reached Woonan's crypt, they found only his skeleton, his flag, and a final message revealing that he had come to value their friendship above the gold itself. Ganzo continued cooking and sailing the East Blue, often alongside Rokai.
