Appearance

Despite being treated as a cat, Gonbe has the unmistakable build of a rabbit, complete with long ears and a fluffy cotton tail. His coloring runs mostly light blue, set against a cream face and underside, and like his owner he wears a constant wide grin. Following the timeskip he appears somewhat larger and a little more like an ordinary rabbit.

Personality

Gonbe is essentially inseparable from Chimney, trailing her wherever she goes and copying whatever she does. A broad smile rarely leaves his face. Fully persuaded that he is a feline, he even produces the matching sound, the Japanese "nya" that stands in for a meow.

History

Once Chimney and Gonbe had met the Straw Hat Pirates, the pair joined her grandmother in heading into Water 7 as Aqua Laguna approached, and later turned up when Franky stopped by Blueno's bar for cola. During the Enies Lobby events the two stowed away on the Sea Train Rocketman alongside the crew and their allies, uncovered a hidden corridor while tailing Lucci and Robin, and guided Luffy to its entrance.

When Lucci flooded the tunnel, Kokoro revealed her mermaid form and carried the group to safety, and Sanji later snatched Gonbe, Chimney, Kokoro, and Chopper off a sinking ship before they all escaped aboard the Going Merry. After the funeral for the Merry, Gonbe returned with the others to Water 7 and was present when Garp arrived and Luffy's family ties came to light. He stayed close to Chimney through the later cover stories, including at the Sea Train station and after the timeskip once she had taken over as the Shift Station's Sunday stationmaster.
