Appearance

Gordon is a tall figure with broad shoulders set above thin limbs, a double chin, and a slightly elongated head marked by a scar across his forehead, the skin to the scar's left a different shade. He is bald on top while long grey hair and sideburns grow at the sides, and he wears sunglasses together with what look like headphones. His clothing runs to a double-breasted coat in dull green,a white frilled dress shirt paired with a cravat, slim grey trousers, and leather shoes, with a purple-tasseled rosary bead at the coat's hem. Twelve years earlier he had no scar, sported blond hair, and dressed in white with a light green cravat.

Personality

Gordon is gentle at heart, having taken in Uta as a young girl and cared for her even though his kingdom lay in ruins, treating that catastrophe as the accident it was. Once he grasped what her New Genesis would mean, he tried earnestly and cautiously to talk her out of it, knowing her intentions were good but her methods were not. He carried lasting guilt for hiding the truth of Elegia's destruction from her, viewing his silence as cowardice and striving to keep her safe in spite of it. A devoted lover of music, he never discarded the "Tot Musica" sheet and kept teaching even after his realm fell, eventually finding contentment again by instructing a new wave of musicians.

History

Twelve years before the film, Gordon ruled Elegia, known across the seas as the world's music capital, when the Red Hair Pirates arrived carrying Uta. Captivated by her singing, he invited her to remain, and a farewell party meant to broadcast her voice instead roused the cursed sheet music of Tot Musica hidden in the castle ruins. Singing it unleashed the demon, which leveled Elegia. Gordon survived with a head wound tended by Hongo. As the Navy closed in, Shanks took the blame so that Uta could grow into a professional singer under Gordon's care, on the condition that he never tell her the truth. Gordon raised her on the deserted island, and years later a special Transponder Snail let her broadcast her songs worldwide.

During the events of the film, Gordon watched Uta's concert as her New Genesis began and led Luffy, Law, Bepo, and Bartolomeo into nearby ruins to explain the danger and beg their help. Uta soon found them, trapped Gordon on a musical staff, and only Bepo's matching note freed him. Wheeled back to Luffy's group, Gordon proposed that Shanks was the figure capable of defeating Tot Musica in both the dream world and reality at once. When Luffy later confronted Uta, Gordon threw himself in the way and was impaled through the chest, confessing that Shanks had been innocent and that his own refusal to destroy the music sheet was the real cause. Uta summoned Tot Musica regardless, but after Shanks and Luffy destroyed it she came to her senses and freed Gordon, who went on to open a new music school.
