Appearance

Roughly as large as a modest house, Hasami sports a red shell and a humanlike mouth fixed in a constant leer. The two claws differ sharply in size, with the right one dwarfing the left. While helping the Straw Hats he wore reins fastened at each corner of his mouth and carried a dense green covering across his shell, though whether that was a tarp or living plant matter was never settled. Once employed by the resort, he instead bears a passenger carriage built to resemble a bus driver's peaked cap, big enough for dozens of riders, fitted with a huge flashlight and a scissors emblem on its band. The resort's logo, the word UKKARI split by an antique kanji for bathwater, decorates his face.

Personality

Where most Arabasta wildlife turns hostile, this crab is thoroughly gentle and readily places his trust in smaller beings, humans included, lending them his help. He does share one quirk with his friend Matsuge: both harbor a lecherous fascination with human women and grow energized at the sight of them.

History

Hasami's bulk pairs with surprising quickness, letting him haul large numbers of passengers across great stretches of desert as a powerful draft animal, though like every member of his kind he can neither swim nor stand contact with water. During Operation Utopia, as the rest of the crew fled Crocodile's trap at Rainbase, Chopper heard from Matsuge about a friendly moving-crab dwelling close by and recruited the creature to rush everyone to Alubarna. Crocodile's powers soon caught up to the crab, and Luffy had to dismount to hold the Baroque Works boss off. Nami impulsively dubbed the crab Hasami, and he managed to carry the group about half the distance before the Sandora River blocked the way. With Nami belly-dancing to spur him on, he attempted to cross but sank, then retreated to shore and waved the pirates off. Once the pirates finally left Arabasta behind, he had wandered back to the area around Rainbase unharmed. Later, the staff of Ukkari Hot-Spring Island found him and put him to work as a living bus, carrying their guests through undersea tunnels excavated by the Dirt Boss.
