Matsuge is a yasa camel who tagged along with the Straw Hat Pirates throughout the Arabasta Arc. Nicknamed for his prominent lower lashes, he would carry only women at first, earning the label of pervy camel, and later joined the Super Spot-Billed Duck Troops.
Light brown in color, Matsuge is outfitted with a bridle and a square saddle topped by a fur seat. Beneath that seat lies a purple blanket bearing a yellow stripe patterned with orange diamonds, plus a silver seat draped in orange cloth. The eyelashes lining the lower edge of his eyes are striking enough to be the source of his name. Following the timeskip he takes to wearing a tufted metal helmet of sorts.
Matsuge shows a clear preference for women, which is why he initially permitted only Nami and Vivi onto his back. That bias softened over the course of the Arabasta Arc, when he made an exception for an injured Usopp and let him ride.
The Straw Hats first encountered him in the desert after rescuing him from a Sandora Lizard, and he would carry only Nami and Vivi. Nami christened him Matsuge out of fondness, but his refusal to let anyone else mount him earned him a beating from the rest of the crew and the nickname Pervy Camel, a slur the crew only understood thanks to Chopper's translation. While fleeing Rainbase, he introduced the group to his friend Hasami, who guided them across the sands; Chopper revealed that Matsuge had been born in Rainbase and kept many friends there. During the operation against Crocodile he disguised himself as Vivi by riding the duck Ivan X in a white cape, paired with Usopp on Bourbon Jr., and was chased down by Mr. 2, who needed barely a second to dispatch each of them.
Once Crocodile fell, Matsuge was granted special treatment and admitted into the Super Spot-Billed Duck Troops despite being a camel. He later soaked in the geothermal baths of Ukkari Hot Spring alongside the troops, and after the timeskip was spotted strolling with Vivi and Karoo, sharing apples as crowds waved. The anime alters his backstory: there he hails from Rainbase, ferries weapons between Nanohana and Katorea for the rebels, becomes acquainted with Chopper after smuggling him back to Nanohana, and is rescued by Luffy from a desert plant before the Sandora Lizard encounter, later getting pummeled for having concealed the rebels' location in Katorea.
