Appearance

Hina stands tall and lean, her dark brown eyes framed by long pink hair parted down the middle and falling to her waist. Dark red lipstick and a cigarette are recurring touches. Her debut look paired a burgundy two-piece over a white blouse with brown shoes and gloves; later she favors a low-cut purple top with golden detailing, matching trousers, heels, a beaded necklace, and purple sunglasses pushed onto her forehead. Like most Marines she lets a long white coat hang from her shoulders, though hers keeps light blue epaulettes rather than the usual red and blue. As a girl she wore the same parted hairstyle, shorter, with a striped dress, and was drawn keeping caged birds and beetles in a nod to her future fruit.

Personality

Reserved and dignified, Hina rarely lets emotion surface, even when she loses. She is neither cruel nor zealous like many of her rank, but she is coldly practical, seizing any edge over a criminal, while staying oddly lenient toward the clowning of her own subordinates. Against that calm exterior runs a quirk: she refers to herself in the third person, as in "Hina failed," a childlike affectation whose origin is never explained. She also carries unusual historical knowledge for her generation, recalling the long-buried Rocks Pirates that only veterans like Garp and Sengoku typically remember.

History

She rose through the academy beside the unruly Smoker, repeatedly shielding him from superiors despite her own model discipline, and both eventually made captain. Her gift, the Paramecia-class Ori Ori no Mi, lets her form iron bars and clamp iron rings onto enemies: when a foe passes through a limb she swipes across them, that limb becomes a binding loop and instantly regrows, and she can also extend long cage bars from her body to strike and ensnare crowds at once. She commands the Black Cage Corps and is sharp enough to spot disguised fugitives from their wanted posters, twice besting the formidable Bentham in single combat.

During Arabasta's civil war she answered Smoker's call to disrupt Baroque Works along the coast, seizing the Dance Powder ship Full and readying the captured Crocodile for transport to headquarters. At Tamarisk she urged Smoker to swallow his pride when officials handed him and Tashigi credit meant for the Straw Hats, only for him to denounce the cover-up. Tasked with the hunt, she ringed the coast with thirty ships and netted nearly every fleeing vessel; the Straw Hats and Bentham's crew rammed the blockade together, and when Bentham impersonated Luffy's group to draw her off, she chased the wrong ship before crushing his men in a fury.

Later she resumed pursuing escaped Baroque Works agents around Kyuka Island, capturing Mikita and staging a public execution to lure the rest, only for Bentham to fool her again, though she recaptured both him and the real Galdino. At Marineford she joined the forces gathered for Ace's execution and tried to snare Luffy, who slipped free with Gear 2 and left her binding her own allies. After the timeskip she resurfaced as a rear admiral, escorting the Nefertari family toward Mary Geoise and trading talk of the Rocks Pirates with Garp at Red Port. In the Final Saga she told Sengoku that Garp and SWORD had gone to Hachinosu for Koby, felt the worldwide tremor after Lulusia's destruction, and listened, stunned, to Vegapunk's broadcast warning the world would sink.
