Saint Jalmack

First glimpsed in shadow, Jalmack carries the standard look of a Celestial Dragon, though his hair rises into a pair of rounded bulbs. A broad chin and a single red earring decorating his right ear mark his face. His dress matches that of his caste, a heavy white coat dotted with medal-like knobs, to which he has added a cape. Because the resin bubbles worn as helmets only hold together near Sabaody, he cannot use one elsewhere, so in its place he keeps a boxy helmet over his head so that he never has to breathe air shared with common people.

Like the rest of his kind, he is haughty and self-absorbed, treating anyone beneath his rank with contempt. He keeps slaves, one bearing him along like a mount and two trailing behind in chains, and he feels no hesitation about gunning down whoever defies him, children included. When he shot Sabo he offered a justification the other nobles did not bother with, branding the boy a criminal for raising a pirate flag, a stance that echoes the Absolute Justice creed favored by many Marines. His real grievance, though, was that the little vessel had cut across his path, which made the talk of justice little more than a moral cover.

Years before the story opens, Jalmack traveled from Mary Geoise to the Goa Kingdom of the East Blue. When his vessel drew near the harbor, a stolen fishing boat carrying Sabo drifted past with a pirate flag raised. Insulted that a commoner had come so close, the noble blasted the craft with a rifle-styled bazooka, setting it ablaze and seemingly killing the would-be pirate, though the boy in fact survived and lost years of memory. To his stunned attendant he insisted that anyone flying such a flag earned a criminal's fate, all the more so for crossing in front of him. Once ashore, he was led through the streets by his chained captives and the kingdom's royal guards.
