Sabo

In Luffy's childhood flashback, Sabo is a ten-year-old boy the same age as Ace, with round eyes, a gap where a tooth is missing, and short, curly blond locks. He wears a large black top hat ringed with blue goggles, a blue jacket with rolled sleeves, a cravat, and pale cyan shorts held by a belt with an ornate flower buckle. As an adult he grows taller and far more muscular, his face more defined, carrying a scar over his left eye left by the burns from Saint Jalmack's destruction of his little boat. He resembles Luffy closely enough to pass as "Lucy" merely by donning the same gear, though he stands taller than his younger brother, and he keeps his now longer hair styled to hide the scar. His usual dress is a long black jacket whose left sleeve carries a buckle, worn over a blue shirt with a matching vest, a frilled cravat, loose light-blue trousers paired with black boots, brown gloves, and his familiar goggle-wrapped top hat.

Sabo stands out as the diplomatic, even-tempered member of his childhood trio, the brother Luffy calls kinder than Ace, the one who smoothed over the pair's constant quarrels and cheered Luffy's growth. His old dream was to roam the seas as a pirate and record everything he saw in a book, a longing stirred by the rigid class divides of the Goa Kingdom. Born to nobility, he rejects that world entirely, refusing to look down on the poor and declaring himself ashamed of his birth, which drove him to flee his home for the Gray Terminal. He proved willing to surrender that dream for the people he loved, and even after his memories returned he stayed loyal to the Revolutionary Army rather than resume his pirate ambitions. By age twenty-two he has picked up several of Luffy's habits, including mangling people's names, and he guards his younger brother with a fierce protectiveness, dropping everything the moment Luffy seems endangered, a reflex shaped by his earlier failure to save Ace.

Sabo grew up wealthy under Outlook III and Didit before fleeing the Goa Kingdom and falling in with Ace and Luffy as a Gray Terminal vagabond, where the three exchanged sake cups to become sworn brothers. Attempting to set out to sea soon after, he had his boat blown apart by the World Noble Saint Jalmack and was rescued by Dragon, an ordeal that erased his memory and bound him to the Revolutionary Army. A decade later, word of Ace's death restored his recollections. Two years after that he reunited with Luffy and inherited Ace's legacy by devouring his late brother's Mera Mera no Mi, won at the Corrida Colosseum while standing in for Luffy. He aided Luffy throughout the Dressrosa conflict, taking on the likes of Diamante and Jesus Burgess and later facing Admiral Fujitora. During the most recent Levely he and several fellow commanders stormed Mary Geoise, after which he was falsely blamed for killing Nefertari Cobra, a frame-up that sent his fame soaring as the "Flame Emperor" and ignited rebellions worldwide.
