Appearance

Burgess is an enormous, tan, heavily muscled man whose broad upper body sits atop comparatively thin legs. Curly violet hair reaches his shoulders, and a dark brown mask trimmed in orange hides the top of his face while leaving his eyes and nose exposed, giving him the look of a luchador. He favors a sleeveless black shirt, ruffled white pants, and elbow bands, and he is rarely seen without a championship belt. Past the timeskip he grew a beard, bulked up further, and lightened his hair; at the colosseum he wore gladiator garb with armor on his right arm. By the Egghead Arc, gold plating shields the right half of his head and jaw where Sabo wounded him.

Personality

Loud, brutish, and supremely cocky, Burgess lives for fighting and will challenge anyone, relishing strong opponents like Luffy. He is also a poor loser who cannot accept defeat and will resort to dirty tricks, such as concealing a knife to stab Sabo. More serious than his carefree captain, he once scolded Blackbeard for laughing off a setback, yet he keeps forgetting to call Teach Admiral and slips back into Captain. His ruthlessness shows in his attempts to murder a weakened Luffy and then Sabo merely to claim a Devil Fruit he felt was his by right. His signature laugh is Wiiihahaha.

Abilities

A founding member of Blackbeard's crew and now its first-ship captain among the Ten Titanic Captains, Burgess ranks among the strongest aboard, having flattened every challenger in Mock Town and swept the colosseum's A Block within seconds and without a scratch. His raw power lets him tear a building off its foundation and throw it, and his wrestling strikes, such as the Hado Elbow and Galleon Lariat, unleash building-wrecking shockwaves. He boasts huge durability, having weathered blows from Whitebeard and Sengoku, and later consumed the Riki Riki no Mi, whose Paramecia powers grant superhuman strength enough to hoist and hurl an entire mountain. He also wields Armament and Observation Haki, fights with pistols and a hidden dagger, and knows a method for stealing other people's Devil Fruit powers.
