Josephine (CBA)

Josephine is an enormous lizard with green scaly hide and a dark red armored back. Once Azuki dosed her with a remedy, her look changed sharply: the skin deepened to red while the shell along her spine turned violet. Sharp claws tip her limbs, and her eyes gleam a vivid yellow.

As an animal, Josephine acts on instinct rather than character. Sheer size already makes her a threat, and she fights with ferocity, clawing and breathing fire at any who cross her. Her bond is with Azuki, who tends her devotedly and grows enraged whenever the creature is harmed.

Her vast bulk alone makes Josephine a dangerous foe, and her sharp claws and fiery breath add to the menace. Though Zoro brought her down, she wounded him badly enough that, by Chopper's account, he was forced to rest in bed. A substance given by Azuki shifted the lizard's coloring and pushed her strength higher still.

Azuki had found the lizard and kept it for her work, joining colleagues Fang, Daizu, and Edamame in efforts to graft animal traits onto humans. Her ongoing care and experiments to bolster the creature's power likely explain its tremendous size. When Zoro and Chopper first met the beast, a fight broke out and they beat her, though Zoro was left unable to continue. After Azuki tended her wounds, the two crossed paths again; defeated once more by the swordsman, Josephine was then juiced with the strength-boosting serum and dropped the weakened Zoro, leaving Chopper to step in and win. Undeterred, Josephine and Azuki ambushed Chopper again on the way to the temple, on floors ten and thirty, failing each time to stop him.
