"Diamond" Jozu

Standing roughly twice the height of Crocodile even while hunched, Jozu earned the label of giant from the former Warlord. His enormous, dark-skinned frame is broad through the chest and heavily plated, with thick arms set above comparatively slender legs and a long, scowling face marked by black stripe patterns serving as both beard and hair. The Aztec-styled armor he sports includes bolted shoulder pads, a metal-strapped cuirass that shifted from green to rusty red over the run, a wide golden belt over a skirt-like garment, and studded black footwear. Two decades earlier he wore a black tank top with a red sash and had a thinner neck, while as a poor child he was round and chubby with stubby legs and hair already bunched into balls. The Summit War cost him his right arm when Aokiji's ice shattered it off.

Holding the third division command placed every lower ranked crew member under his authority, and his decades aboard stretched back to the age of Gold Roger. He could trade blows with Warlords and Marine admirals alike, leading a division built specifically for frontline combat. Strong willed enough to shrug off a Supreme King Haki burst from Shanks, he paired Armament and Observation Haki with overwhelming raw power.

His physical might is monstrous: he ripped an iceberg-sized chunk from a frozen sea sheet, hoisted it overhead, and flung it at a squad of giants. Despite his bulk he moves with startling quickness, a trait that kept him from ever being caught during his thieving childhood, and his speed made his strikes especially dangerous to Logia users who expect attacks to phase through them. He favors wrestling moves like tackles and suplexes, endures punishment such as a point-blank sandstorm from Crocodile, and survived being frozen solid by Aokiji. He swallowed the Kira Kira no Mi, a Paramecia fruit that converts any part of his body to diamond, serving as his crew's shield. In that hardened state his offense and defense soar, and he once halted Dracule Mihawk's strongest slash without a scratch or even being pushed back.

Raised in poverty in the West Blue, Jozu turned to theft as a boy and evaded every pursuer thanks to his speed. At twelve he was aboard when the Whitebeard Pirates first reached Wano and met Kozuki Oden, watching Oden endure the three day chain ordeal before joining the crew. Four years later the crew clashed with the Roger Pirates over three days and nights before the brawl turned into a gift exchange. He stood with Whitebeard when Fish-Man Island was claimed, and protested in vain when Ace set out to hunt Blackbeard after Thatch's murder.

At Marineford he intercepted Mihawk's slash by turning to diamond, then hurled an iceberg at the Marine giants only for Akainu to vaporize it, a failed throw that ironically gave Luffy and the Impel Down crew a safe water landing. He blindsided Crocodile with a crushing hit but was stopped by Doflamingo's strings, and later smashed Aokiji to pieces telling his captain to advance. When Marco was struck by Kizaru, Jozu's moment of distraction let Aokiji freeze and shatter his arm. Comrades and Blenheim carried his frozen body to safety, and he was thawed in time for the funeral of Whitebeard and Ace. A year later the crew lost the Payback War to the Blackbeard Pirates and went into hiding.
