Kinoko

Kinoko is a hugely heavyset man with tan skin, a rounded nose, small eyes, a wide mouth, and a jutting lower lip. His enormous belly sits atop limbs that are oddly short and thin, and his brown hair rises to a single peak at the top, mushroom-like. He wears the standard black-and-white striped prison uniform.

Inside Level 5, Kinoko was a fatalist who dismissed any thought of escaping the Great Prison and tried to talk Luffy into simply accepting death, scoffing at the idea of risking oneself to save another. After gaining his freedom he stayed wary of genuinely dangerous figures like Marshall D. Teach. He is also credulous, coming to revere Buggy as a mighty savior simply because the clown spoke up to two Emperors, never realizing that Buggy was merely an old friend of Shanks.

Among the notorious inmates of Level 5, Kinoko was looked on as the boss of their cell, and his confinement on a floor set aside for bounties of 100,000,000 and higher speaks to his strength. During the Summit War, Whitebeard reckoned Buggy's convict followers too dangerous to provoke, an assessment that took Kinoko in as well. Convicted and jailed at some earlier point, he kept watch over Luffy after Magellan hurled the boy into the freezing fifth level and mocked his determination to rescue Ace, then broke out once Bentham dropped the cell keys behind him.

He saw Blackbeard stamp Hannyabal underfoot, trailed Buggy at Marineford while marveling at their new figurehead, and recoiled in surprise as the Polar Tang surfaced. When Shanks turned up and Buggy hollered at the Emperor much as he had in their Roger-era youth, the display so impressed Kinoko and the rest that they pledged to follow him for good, formally enrolling in the Buggy Pirates after the crew came back together.
