Appearance

Kumadori looms over almost everyone, measuring exactly twice Nami's pre-timeskip height, and his oversized hands match his frame. A huge pinkish mane crowns his head, and before the timeskip his right eye is rarely seen open. His stances, often with one hand thrust forward, evoke the dramatic mie poses of kabuki, and his speech carries the same theatrical cadence. Covers of CP9's Independent Report reveal four scars, two across his torso and a smaller pair on his left arm. With CP9 he wore the standard black suit and shirt, but added green socks under flip-flops, a green tie, and guards strapped across the backs of his hands. Reinstated into CP0, he dons the identical outfit recolored white. Oda's childhood sketches show he has worn his kabuki makeup since boyhood, back when his left eye stayed shut rather than his right.

Personality

Eccentric even by CP9 standards, Kumadori clings fiercely to a samurai sense of honor, repeatedly attempting seppuku whenever he feels he has disgraced himself, which is often, since he shoulders blame for nearly everything, including the failings of others. Each time, his body instinctively hardens with Tekkai and blocks the blade, sparing his life in absurd fashion. He insists that real men neither weep nor surrender, a creed that kept him swinging even against Chopper's monster form, and he tried to talk the reindeer out of giving up too. Loud and given to drawn-out syllables, he punctuates his sentences with a booming "YOYOI" and breaks into haiku at the least fitting moments. He frequently invokes his mother in heaven, Kumadori Yamanbako, and dissolves into sobs, unaware that she is in fact still living. Calling himself a sennin, he explains his control over digestion, weight, and even his own hair. Beneath the theatrics he is fond of his comrades, helping fund Lucci's recovery and enjoying their time together at St. Poplar.

History

A full CP9 agent with a Doriki of 810, Kumadori commands tremendous superhuman strength and has mastered all of the Six Powers. He layers these with his shakujo staff and his Life Return technique, which lets him weaponize his hair, shaping it into grasping hands, and instantly digest food to shed bulk. Signature moves include Shigan Cue, jabbing with the staff like a finger gun, and Shishi Kebab, igniting the staff's tip into hurled fireballs. He also wields Armament and Observation Haki and carries a long-bladed knife kept solely for hara-kiri.

His past included a mission alongside Jabra and Fukurou to assassinate Revolutionary Army leaders, botched when Fukurou leaked it, forcing the agents to kill twenty-three people. At Enies Lobby he served under Spandam, repeatedly attempting and failing seppuku, and pinned Franky off his superior. When the Straw Hats stormed the tower, he cornered Nami in the underground prison and bound her with his hair, only for Tony Tony Chopper to intervene. Their long duel saw Kumadori trapped in a refrigerator, gorging on its contents, then burning back to fighting shape, and ultimately battering the reindeer until a third Rumble Ball unleashed a monstrous Chopper who beat him senseless and hurled him to the courthouse square. After the Buster Call, he and his fellow agents survived, performed in the streets of St. Poplar to pay Lucci's hospital bills, defended the town from the Candy Pirates, and sailed home. During the timeskip the group uncovered an Underworld plot involving freed Level 6 prisoners, and their efforts earned them promotion to CP0. As a CP0 agent he later watched Revolutionary commanders storm Mary Geoise and helped guard a captured Nefertari Vivi, who slipped away when Wapol burst in devouring the walls.
