History

Lacuba earned his fame through tactical skill, marking him as a capable strategist, and as a captain he commanded his own crew. At some point he was seized and delivered to the auction house on the Sabaody Archipelago. Refusing to accept life as a slave, he made a stand on the auction stage, biting down on his own tongue in a bid to end his life, which left him collapsed and unconscious.

He survived the ordeal and was seen again among the captives when Franky tossed the keys to the imprisoned slaves, freeing them. By then his tongue bore the permanent flat mark from his earlier act, a detail later confirmed in the author's question-and-answer columns.
