When Luffy and Nami first set foot on the Island of Rare Animals, Lionbuta was the opening creature they met. He later gathered with the other animals to see the Straw Hats sail away. He was also on hand when Buggy crashed onto the island and tangled with Gaimon, joining the dancing and celebration that followed before watching Buggy depart. Years afterward he reappears, contentedly looking on as the newcomer Sarfunkel feeds Gaimon.
