Mitsuboshi

Lean and middle-aged, he has narrow eyes and a nose that tapers slightly long, with a gap where one tooth is missing. His black hair waves upward into a sizable matching knob. The standard chef's whites suit him, complete with a cook's hat and a lengthy apron, and a blue scarf is knotted at his neck.

Warm and sociable, Mitsuboshi adores food and idolizes Zeff, treating the older cook as a model to aspire toward. He takes fierce pride in both his restaurant and his island. When Corto wrecked the Little Baratie, he rushed the pirate with a frying pan despite knowing the odds were hopeless, and he later joined the other residents against the Amigo Pirates to defend Boss and their home even after a bullet caught him in the arm.

In the early days of the Baratie, Mitsuboshi met Zeff, fell for his cooking, and longed to copy both his recipes and his notion of a restaurant set out on the sea, though he admitted he lacked the nerve and drive to attempt it himself. He visited so often that he learned the dishes purely by taste, then built his own copycat establishment, the Little Baratie. When the Straw Hats arrived, Sanji's cooking stirred his nostalgia, and Sanji confirmed the recipe matched the old man's exactly. Mitsuboshi prepared a feast for the crew, but the Amigo Pirates interrupted, demanding Boss. Corto's explosive maracas leveled part of the island and a fragment of the restaurant sign struck the cook, who charged in fury and was shot. As the townspeople rallied to protect Boss, Mitsuboshi stood with them, though he was a poor fighter wielding only a frying pan and ladle. Once the pirates were beaten, he was last seen cooking a meal while the Straw Hats sailed away. Sanji even judged his skill to surpass Zeff's own.
