One of the three leads in the spin-off One Piece in Love, Nakatsugawa Usopp is a Hamamatsu high schooler who happens to share a name with a Straw Hat. A fanatical One Piece devotee, he launches his school's Pirate Club and constantly sweeps his friends into his antics.
A hulking teenager, Usopp has a notably block-shaped head and wears glasses. His height is considerable, rising a clear head taller than the student next to him in size, and his shoulders are broad. Short black hair crowns the top of his head before giving way to a flow of curly blond locks that tumble down his back. His usual outfit is a school uniform of white button-down shirt and blue trousers, swapped for casual wear in his free time.
What drives Usopp above all is a fanatical love of One Piece. He quotes it endlessly and restages its moments, armed with knowledge that outstrips the ordinary reader. He grabs every chance to fold the series into everyday life, a fixation that leaves him tactless and blind to the moods of those around him, often pressing others into joining his obsession. His want of malice makes him a handful, since he honestly assumes everyone enjoys One Piece as much as he does. When it counts, though, he can turn serious, stepping up without pause to shield his friends from harm or to face down those who are cruel, as he did for Luffy.
Usopp's bulk brings real strength, enough to knock out four bullies in a single brawl, and despite his naive streak he is clever, rigging up assorted One Piece-themed gadgets and coding fairly sophisticated systems, among them the mind behind the group's Brook. His homemade techniques echo the original Usopp, including a belt-and-rope grab, a memory-warping Tabasco pellet, and a water-blasting scroll move drawn from Raizo. In the story he races down the corridor seeking the two students said to carry One Piece names like his, finds Yamamoto Luffy and Koyama Nami, and passes a joyful afternoon with them. The next day he sets up the Pirate Club, declares Luffy its captain, and papers the school with recruiting flyers. Catching sight of Luffy under attack from bullies, he reenacts a flame move to scare them off, but the trick accidentally sets the building alight. Going forward as a club member, he grows steadily closer to Luffy and Nami while pulling them into his everyday One Piece escapades.

When I first decided to commit to watching One Piece seriously, I knew I was embarking on one of anime's longest and most beloved series. With over 100...

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
