Appearance

Because the standard models are clones, each one duplicates Kuma exactly, right down to his unusual proportions and his voice, leaving pirates unfamiliar with the original convinced they face the real man. The only genuine giveaways are the missing Bible and the paw pads of his Nikyu Nikyu no Mi, the latter hidden beneath identical gloves. A label reading PX followed by a hyphen and a number sits on the right of each unit's neck, marking its build order, and around twenty were in service by the time of the Marineford war.

Two refreshed lines exist beyond the originals. On Egghead, the upgraded Mark III keeps Kuma's shape but swaps the wardrobe for a double-breasted jumpsuit stamped with a serial number, a combat helmet, aviator shades, a metal collar, and resin-dispensing gloves. One Egghead guard unit even wears police-style tactical armor with exposed shoulder cybernetics. Separately, an elite class called the Seraphim, built from the Seven Warlords as youthful clones with Lunarian traits and artificial Devil Fruits, eventually reached completion.

Abilities

Inheriting Kuma's Buccaneer heritage on top of their cyborg conversion, the Pacifista carry enormous physical strength and are sheathed in a metal tougher than steel; Zoro's blade barely scratched the partially converted Kuma where ordinary steel would have split. They lift grown adults one-handed and shrug off weapons that shatter against their shells. Their signature attack fires Kizaru-derived light beams from the mouth and palms, capable of piercing a transformed Ancient Zoan and triggering devastating explosions. Built-in scopes, the source of the red glow in their eyes, identify wanted pirates and their bounties from a distance, even seeing through disguises, though a large enough change in age can throw the system off.

As cyborgs they absorb punishing damage without shutting down, and a badly hurt unit may go berserk, firing wildly in all directions as PX-4 did against the Straw Hats. Only irreversible trauma such as a broken neck or being cleaved apart stops them for good. Command runs through a strict authority hierarchy: certain individuals issue orders directly while others need an authority chip, with higher ranks overriding lower ones in person. Secretly, Vegapunk programmed Jewelry Bonney as the supreme authority over all Kuma-based units, above even the Five Elders, unable to bear the thought of machines wearing her father's face killing her. The Mark III adds a resin Bubble Shield that even deflected a bazooka round.

History

Vegapunk had long imagined a cloned cyborg army, but the project truly began about four years before the present when Kuma, desperate to cure his adoptive daughter Bonney of the Sapphire Scales disease, came to him. Their original bargain traded Kuma's blood for the cloning work, the program nicknamed Pacifista after Kuma called himself a pacifist. The Five Elder Jaygarcia Saturn wiretapped the deal and imposed harsher terms: Kuma would join the Warlords, become a cyborg himself, and ultimately surrender his mind and free will. Kuma accepted to save Bonney, who was quietly held as a hostage under constant surveillance. Vegapunk was forced to install a self-destruct system as well, and Kuma was converted piece by piece, starting with his hands.

At Thriller Bark, Kuma, by then nearly emptied of will, was ordered to silence every witness to Moria's defeat, and he leveled the island, the wound Zoro left on his shoulder exposing his cyborg nature. Mass-produced units soon flooded Sabaody, battling the Kid and Heart Pirates and scattering the Straw Hats when X Drake revealed their true identity. At Marineford, Sentomaru led an army of at least twenty against Whitebeard's forces, and Boa Hancock smashed several to protect Luffy. After the timeskip, the prototypes PX-5 and PX-7 proved easy prey for the strengthened Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji. In the Final Saga on Egghead, fifty Mark III units guarded Vegapunk's escape, switching allegiances as rival orders came down, until Bonney's hidden supreme authority turned them against the Marines, after which Saint Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro began freezing their neural systems one by one.
