Appearance

Age shows on this thickset officer, who keeps gray hair above a slim mustache and a goatee. He dresses in a four-button gray suit worn over a red collared shirt, matching it with gray trousers, dark shoes, and the regulation Marine cloak.

Personality

He professes a creed he calls Fine Tuned Justice, yet his true aim is selfish: holding onto a high rank long enough to retire with a generous pension, so he battles to protect his standing rather than for any noble cause. Rowdy behavior grates on him, and he was thoroughly irritated when Grount tore through his base on arrival. When angered he tends to bellow and crowd in on people, browbeating his own men, and he can turn sarcastic, as when a report reached him of a ghost leaving Marines unconscious. In a fight he thinks practically, moving first to cut off an enemy's path of retreat.

History

Prodi has long counted Garp among his friends, and the two sparred frequently, though he once chewed Garp out after the disastrous posting of Garp's pupil Grount to Fron Island. He held the former admiral Kuzan in low regard and freely insulted him, which is exactly what provoked Grount's fury. When reinforcements reached the island, Prodi was appalled to watch Grount thrash everyone and wreck the ship; he hauled the young captain into his office to scold him before letting him eat.

Soon a report came in of Marines found stripped and senseless, prompting Prodi to comb the island through its video transponder snails. Spotting Luffy stirring up the cafeteria, he sounded the alarm and ordered every Marine after the Straw Hats. He cornered the group at the shore, launched into a speech about how their adventuring ruins innocent lives, then admitted he was really there to dodge a demotion. He blasted his Armament Haki-charged bazooka at the Shark Submerge III, their escape craft, then turned the weapon on the crew, but they slipped past his shots. Luffy eventually drove Eagle Bazooka into his chest and downed him. As Luffy and Grount later collided in a massive duel, Prodi and his men were flung aside, leaving him to mourn that his retirement was surely ruined.
