Shanba

Like the rest of his people, Shanba is squat and round in build, topped with black hair and a matching black mustache. A distinctive eye-shaped tattoo marks his right arm.

Quick to judgment, Shanba took the visiting Chopper for a tanuki and joined in the hunt for him. Behind that crude first impression, however, he and his tribe proved to be far more intelligent than they appeared, a revelation that surprised those who met them.

That sharp mind lets Shanba handle advanced gear, most notably the rocket spears he and his fellow tribesmen wield with real skill, weapons they also turned against the giant Torino birds. Four years before the present, Bartholomew Kuma sought him and other Torino Kingdom residents out while searching for a cure to the Sapphire Scales.

When Chopper crash-landed on the kingdom during the crew's separation, Shanba was among those who proposed cooking the reindeer into stew and gave chase, later clashing with the Torino birds. After Chopper resolved the feud between the natives and the birds, the tribe befriended him and saw him off when he left to rejoin Luffy. He appeared again on Chopper's return, remarking that the disguise was not fooling anyone. Later, after Doflamingo's fall at Dressrosa, Shanba and the birds received Chopper's updated wanted poster, and during the Final Saga he listened in on Vegapunk's worldwide broadcast.
