Detamaruka is an elderly Dressrosa citizen and former dancer, grandmother to Shin Jaiya. During the Birdcage crisis her grandmother's love and King Riku's encouragement gave her the will to keep running for her life.
Heavily wrinkled and white-haired, Detamaruka is a woman well advanced in years. She dresses in a pink and purple frock dotted with polka dots.
Devotion to her granddaughter drives her, and even with death seemingly near she fixed her thoughts on getting Jaiya safely clear of the Birdcage.
Her frail body failed during the chaos as Donquixote Doflamingo drew the Birdcage tighter, and after a long flight she crumpled, unable to rise. She urged Jaiya to abandon her and run on, but the girl would not. When their former ruler Riku Doldo III broadcast his plea for everyone to cling to life and hold onto hope, Detamaruka found fresh strength, climbed back to her feet, and dashed off at remarkable speed to her granddaughter's joy.
