Appearance

A small boy with tiny eyes, Tamanegi sports straight brown hair crowned by a single upward tuft, a quirk that gives his head the unmistakable look of an onion. Square glasses sit on his face, and he dresses in a yellow shirt under a blue vest, finished with a dark yellow sash, brown trousers, and black shoes trimmed in grey with tan buckles.

Two years later he has shot up in height and grown his hair longer. His glasses now have rounder edges, his eyes have widened a touch, and he wears a dark jacket with a sash and plaid shorts.

Personality

Tamanegi has a habit of vanishing only to burst back into view with a sudden shout. He is fiercely devoted to Usopp and braver than his size suggests, going so far as to face down Jango in defense of Kaya. His lifelong goal is to write books.

History

The Usopp Pirates came together five years before the story opens, with Tamanegi, Ninjin, and Piiman following Usopp in his daily ritual of spreading tall tales. When the Straw Hats reached Syrup Village, the boys helped Kaya slip away from Captain Kuro's murder plot, mostly by dodging and hiding from Jango. After Kuro fell, the trio tearfully disbanded as Usopp set off to become a real pirate, vowing to keep up his "the pirates are coming" cry themselves. In combat against the Black Cat Pirates, Tamanegi armed himself with a child-sized shovel.

Later, once Usopp had joined Luffy's crew, the boys chased Jango out of their village when he turned up again. They recognized Usopp's wanted poster after Enies Lobby despite the Sogeking mask, picking him out by his nose, and celebrated his rising bounties through the years. Much later, ahead of Vegapunk's global broadcast, Tamanegi and his friends gathered with Kaya at her mansion to listen.
