Ubau

Standing more than twice as tall as an ordinary person, Ubau cuts an enormous, heavyset figure. Black hair sits in puffy clumps above a face marked by a large nose, jutting cheekbones, and full lips, with a goatee at the chin and an unusually thick neck below. White robes drape his bulk, and a cigar is rarely far from his mouth.

Certain that his rank as God granted him limitless authority, Ubau feels no hesitation about starting fights or taking lives to satisfy his ambitions. He boasts of being able to hear the voice of the Vearth, though whether this reflects genuine Mantra or simply an inflated sense of self has never been confirmed.

Command of the Divine Squad and of Skypiea's wider populace rested with Ubau throughout his reign. When a chunk of Jaya was flung skyward by a powerful current and settled as the Upper Yard, he proclaimed the new land a gift from heaven meant for him to inhabit, then marched his Divine Squad against Kalgara and the Shandia who lived there. The clash he set off stretched across four hundred years and claimed the life of the famed warrior Kalgara. Four centuries and seven years on, a fresh deity out of Birka, Enel, descended with his own forces and brought the long struggle to a halt. The name Ubau carries the meaning of theft in Japanese, a nod to his seizure of Shandia territory.
