Zeff and Sanji's Dream! The Illusionary All Blue!

With Gin pressing a gun on Zeff, Pearl warns that any dodge will cost the old cook his life, so Sanji stands and absorbs the shield strikes without resistance. Knocked to the floor, he drifts into memories of his childhood. As a young galley cook aboard the cruise ship Orbit, Sanji was beaten when Zeff's Cook Pirates raided the vessel. During the looting he blurted out his dream of finding the fabled All Blue. A sudden storm then struck, a massive wave swept Sanji into the water, and Zeff dove in after him, choosing to risk everything to drag the boy back.

A second wave sank both ships, and Zeff freed his trapped leg only by severing it with a chain. He carried Sanji to a desolate island, split their rations, and posted them at opposite ends to watch for passing vessels. Sanji's food ran out after twenty days, and starving, he cut open Zeff's larger bag to find treasure instead of provisions; Zeff had given him every scrap of food and had also lost his leg saving him. Zeff explained he shared the same All Blue dream and would not let the boy perish for it. Rescued at last, the two later founded the Baratie together. In the present, Luffy unleashes Gomu Gomu no Ono and obliterates the restaurant's port-side fin.

This episode formally reveals Sanji's past and debuts Pearl's techniques and Luffy's Gomu Gomu no Ono. The anime and manga differ on details: the anime shows Zeff's leg pinned in wreckage and the survival talk happening on the final day after forty-seven days marooned, while the manga has him amputate on the rock and the pair stranded eighty-five days, with the talk on day seventy. The To Be Continued card flies toward the viewer on a chunk of wood blown loose by Luffy's blast. The story is part of the Baratie Arc.
