The closing half of the Toriko crossover special sends the Straw Hats together with Toriko's allies deep into the Mush Room, where they battle their way down floor by floor to assemble the true cure for Chopper's worsening Deep Sea Fever.
After Chopper is struck down by Deep Sea Fever, the Straw Hats encounter Toriko and Komatsu, who lead them to Tou-Chuka Island in pursuit of a remedy. The cure they obtain proves to be merely one piece of the real treatment, so the group remains in a scramble to rescue their ailing doctor.
Bolstered by additional members of Toriko's circle, the team discovers that the remaining ingredients are hidden inside the Mush Room. They advance through its successive floors, fighting their way along to gather every material required to finish the cure and bring Chopper back from the brink.
This entry serves as the back half of the second Collab Special pairing Toriko with One Piece, a release marking one year since the Toriko anime began airing, and it picks up straight from that franchise's episode 51. Rather than the franchise's customary ingredient segment, the special spotlights Devil Fruits, chiefly the Gomu Gomu no Mi, drawn in its older 1998 Jump Super Anime Tour styling, with an Awa Awa no Mi and other fruits visible behind it. Using Gear 3 shrinks Luffy into his small form, a downside his post-timeskip self no longer suffers. As had happened earlier with Episode 492, Funimation left this one out of both its simulcast and DVD release, and a subtitled version reached Crunchyroll afterward while an English dub later landed on Netflix in 2026. The original airing ran without an opening, though subsequent releases inserted We Go! This installment also introduces the location Tou-Chuka Island.
Episode 542 is the second half of a Toriko crossover special in which the Straw Hats and Toriko's allies fight through the Mush Room to gather the ingredients needed to complete a real cure for Tony Tony Chopper's worsening Deep Sea Fever.
In Episode 542, the Straw Hats team up with Toriko and Komatsu, along with additional members of Toriko's circle, after the partial cure they first obtained on Tou-Chuka Island turns out to be only one piece of the full treatment.
The crew searches inside the Mush Room, advancing floor by floor and fighting along the way to gather every ingredient needed to finish Chopper's cure.
Episode 542 spotlights Devil Fruits instead of Toriko's usual ingredient segment, chiefly Luffy's Gomu Gomu no Mi drawn in its older 1998 Jump Super Anime Tour style, with an Awa Awa no Mi and other fruits also visible.
As had already happened with Episode 492, Funimation left Episode 542 out of both its simulcast and DVD release since it is a crossover special; a subtitled version later reached Crunchyroll, and an English dub landed on Netflix in 2026.
