Overview

Captained by Hody Jones, the New Fish-Man Pirates were drawn almost entirely from the fish-men of Fish-Man Island, padded out with a few merfolk, sea beasts, and enslaved humans. They inherited and pushed to extremes the ideology of Arlong, dreaming of making fish-men the world's master race and drowning humanity beneath the sea. Their flag fused the Sun Pirates' emblem with a crossed-out severed human head, a blunt symbol of their loathing. Unlike Arlong's crew, whose racism grew from lived suffering under the Sun Pirates' era, these younger fish-men inherited a hatred with no experience behind it, treating their cause more as radical terrorism than piracy. They held no real regard even for fellow fish-men, and used captured humans as expendable shock troops.

Role

Hody spent time inside the Neptune Army to learn the island he meant to overthrow, while the rest formed a lynch mob that hunted fish-men who showed sympathy toward humans, carrying out a ritual they called Judgment in the Dark against those who donated blood. After assassinating Queen Otohime, Hody stole the dangerous Energy Steroids from the Tamatebako and had Zeo mass-produce them, then raised his banner and founded the crew. Their plan was a coup against King Neptune to claim the island and prove fish-men superior, intercepting passing pirate crews and forcing them to join or be destroyed.

When the Straw Hats arrived, the crew launched its takeover, allying with Vander Decken IX and flooding Ryugu Palace before capturing Neptune and several Straw Hats. At Gyoncorde Plaza, Hody overdosed on steroids, paraded the royal family for execution, and admitted to murdering Otohime, only for Luffy to burst from Megalo's mouth and turn the tide. Half of the hundred-thousand-strong crew collapsed instantly under Luffy's Supreme King Haki, the enslaved humans rose against their captors once Robin freed them, and the lower ranks abandoned the insane officers. Luffy finished Hody aboard the falling Noah, and the island was spared.

In the aftermath, Neptune freed the human captives, sentenced the surviving fish-man pirates to labor under the kingdom, and sealed off the Fish-Man District to keep the cycle from repeating. Hody, his officers, and Decken were locked in the palace prison, where the steroids' side effects later aged the officers into frail old men, permanently stripping the strength they once had and ending any hope of a comeback.

Notable Members

Hody Jones captained the crew and was beaten by Luffy. His officers each fell to a different Straw Hat: Dosun to Chopper, Zeo to Brook, Daruma to Usopp, Ikaros Much to Franky, and the hired assassin Hyouzou to Zoro, all arrested and aged by the steroids afterward. Hammond, who bore an Arlong Pirates tattoo, was defeated by Nico Robin, while Kasagoba fell to Luffy. The crew also commanded giant sea beasts and once controlled the Kraken Surume, who defected to the Straw Hats. Their fighting body was split into named squads, the Bombardment, Iron Shell, Sea Urchin-Armor Spine, and Deadly Poison units, the last led in part by Jean Noueilles.
