Raiu

This nodachi belongs to Shiryu and qualifies as one of the Famous Blades. Its name translates to Thunderstorm. The sword is unusually long, fitted with a four-sided guard and a red diamond-patterned grip. Its sheath runs white on the first half and red on the second, a red floral motif decorates the base of the blade, and the slightly curved white-and-black edge measures roughly two and a half to three meters.

Little has been spelled out about Raiu's specific traits, but its Famous Blade status alone marks it as a fine weapon. It demands considerable strength to wield, which Shiryu showed when he cut down the jailers who freed him. The sword has drawn a great deal of blood over the years, and Shiryu handles it with care yet moves with it at remarkable speed, felling several enemies in clean, economical strokes. Coated in Armament Haki, it proved sharp enough to cut and pierce foes as formidable as Whitebeard and Garp.

Shiryu is the blade's owner. In his past he abused his position as Impel Down's head jailer by killing prisoners for sport, and when Magellan exposed this he was branded a menace, stripped of Raiu, and locked away on Level 6. After Magellan later released him to confront Blackbeard, the sword was handed back, whereupon Shiryu promptly turned it on the very jailers sent to free him.
