Shichiseiken, also called the Cursed Holy Sword, is a tainted blade that Saga wields in the fifth One Piece film. Beautiful yet corrupted by the bloodshed that birthed it, the weapon empowers its bearer while devouring their mind, serving as the movie's true villain.
Regarded as the loveliest sword on the planet and a priceless treasure despite the dark tales clinging to it, Shichiseiken is modeled on a Shuangshou Jian, the larger two-handed relative of the jian. An eight-petaled guard, an ornate hilt, and a red tassel finish the design. Its emerald-green blade ripples with a wavy pattern and carries seven evenly spaced points that glow green whenever the weapon awakens.
Cursed by the killing that surrounded its forging, the sword pours enormous strength into whoever holds it and mends their injuries, even restoring Saga's crippled arm, yet it steadily warps the minds of the wielder and everyone under their command until it owns them outright. It feeds on drained blood to grow stronger and conjures greenish flames. Even someone untrained in the blade gains masterful skill, a personal form of one-sword fighting, though those under its sway cannot handle the sealing jewel orbs.
Its durability is immense; Zoro's Yaki Onigiri failed to scratch it despite being meant to shatter it. The weapon can fuse with its user, letting them slice objects barehanded at any distance and turning them nearly invincible, and the curse can linger in the host even after the blade itself is broken. Saga's attacks included Yokazan, a flaming green projectile struck from the ground, and Yoja: Gashuzan, in which the sword becomes a blue-flame serpent that bites and drains blood. At full power its swings also project cutting shockwaves able to wound a rubber body.
The God of Asuka forged the weapon as a holy guardian for the land's king, but a bloody war among three princes vying for a maiden's love soaked it in negative energy. The grieving princes sealed it with three orbs after the maiden gave her life to end the conflict. Generations later Saga uncovered it in a crypt during a pirate raid and drew it in desperation to protect his fiancee Maya, only to be possessed and driven toward awakening its full power. When the sword sensed Roronoa Zoro nearby, the Straw Hat Pirates and Maya enacted a suppressing ritual; the blade merged with Saga and dispersed Maya's barrier, but Zoro ultimately reached Saga's conscience in a duel and cut away only the curse, sparing his life.

When I first decided to commit to watching One Piece seriously, I knew I was embarking on one of anime's longest and most beloved series. With over 100...

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....

Saga wielded the Shichiseiken after uncovering it in a crypt during a pirate raid and drawing it in desperation to protect his fiancee Maya, though doing so left him possessed by the blade's curse.
