Chapter 133

Dalton, the island's guard captain, escorts the Straw Hats toward his village of Bighorn while Zoro and Karoo remain to watch over the Going Merry. The country is clearly in a pivotal stretch of its history: it bears no name, the people are assembling a police force, and an election looms. Their luck is poor, however, since the sole doctor is Kureha, a 140-year-old woman the villagers brand a witch.

Kureha keeps to a castle atop a sheer mountain and descends to treat patients only when it suits her, though Dalton vouches for her remarkable skill. With Nami's fever still climbing, Luffy refuses to wait and chooses to scale the peak himself, setting off with Sanji and carrying the sick navigator on his back. Dalton meanwhile tells Vivi and Usopp that a band of pirates led by Blackbeard recently raided the country.

That very raid carried an unexpected benefit, ridding the land of its tyrant king Wapol, who fled when the Blackbeard Pirates overran the island. The chapter formally introduces Dalton as Drum's guard captain and notes that Kureha shares her home with a strange creature. Its opening story page appeared in full color in Weekly Shonen Jump, and the color spread cover shows Luffy, Sanji, and Nami sledging across snow in search of Zoro.
