I Promise Never to Fight in This Town

With the port crawling with cutthroats, Nami escorts Luffy and Zoro ashore after wringing a promise from them to avoid any brawls. Sanji is held back on the ship by a frightened Usopp and Chopper, while Robin slips off on her own. The trio helps a frail man and his equally exhausted horse, and he rewards Luffy with apples. Moments later an explosion reveals the fruit can be deadly, yet the doctor congratulates Luffy on his luck for biting a harmless one.

The group resists the urge to challenge a boasting street fighter, then gets thrown out of a hotel reserved for Bellamy's crew, where Sarquiss and Lily toss them coins like beggars. Nami refuses the insult and walks away, unaware that the pirates carry Luffy's outdated 30,000,000-berry poster. At a tavern, Luffy clashes with a large stranger over opposite tastes in pie and soda, the quarrel escalating into a takeout-ordering contest. The owner defuses it by handing the man his pies, and as the stranger exits, Bellamy strides in.

This Jaya arc chapter features Luffy's first encounter with the cherry-pie-loving Marshall D. Teach and the strange doctor Doc Q. The Donquixote Pirates' Jolly Roger appears for the first time on Sarquiss. The cover continues the Hatchan takoyaki serial.
