Chapter 582

Two weeks on from the war, crews flood toward the Grand Line and Marine outposts cry for reinforcement, the shock of Newgate's fall mirroring the one that trailed Roger's. The fugitive party of Luffy, Jinbe, and the Heart Pirates has put in at Amazon Lily. Ivankov sails off with his surviving Newkama bound for Kamabakka, seen off by Law, Jinbe, and Hancock, and Jinbe promises to keep watch over the injured boy. Law cautions that should the wounds tear open again, Luffy will not live. Somewhere in the island's jungle, Luffy snaps awake shouting his brother's name.

At the Kuja stronghold the women cheer the news, none more than Hancock, though Elder Nyon warns that her pact with the Warlords calls for caution, and Hancock, misreading her sisters, simply orders a lavish feast. Down on the shore Luffy wakes torn by visions of Ace dying in front of him and of Akainu's fist punching through his brother. He goes berserk, smashing stone and timber until Jinbe at last plants himself in his path. Wanting none of it, Luffy still drags out the question of whether Ace is truly gone, and Jinbe, with great difficulty, confirms it, sending the boy into wracking sobs. The narrative then slips back ten years to Garp hauling Luffy to the bandit Dadan's doorstep and forcing her to raise him, where Luffy and Ace meet for the first time, each bristling with hostility.

A fortnight has elapsed since the war's close. Luffy climbs out of his coma and mourns Ace, while a flashback portrays the brothers' opening encounter. The mountain bandit Dadan, leading her clan, debuts in these pages. The cover is a color spread of the crew playing soccer alongside animals.
