Chapter 64

Knocked down yet again by Luffy, Don Krieg sends his crew into despair, since their captain has never left a battle hurt. When one man dares suggest Luffy may be the stronger fighter, Krieg silences him, then locks his shoulder plates together into the Great Battle Spear and drives it into the ground beside Luffy, triggering an explosion. His crew rejoices at the secret weapon as Krieg casts off his cape, boasting it far outclasses the stakes he fired earlier.

A swing of the lance hurls Luffy out over the sea, and he barely stretches to a drifting platform, only to drop to his knees from heavy blood loss and the unstable footing. The crew notes the weapon detonates with force matching each blow, and that the roughly one-ton lance is wielded one-handed. Krieg keeps up the assault until Luffy, losing his balance, leaps clear and grabs the lance, forcing Krieg to slam it down and shake him loose. When Krieg rams the weapon forward, Luffy seizes the tip, gets flung by an explosion, and takes a direct hit. Krieg gloats that he is the stronger man, but Luffy stomps his foot down, snapping off the spear's tip. He explains he struck that tip five times, and that with this much open ground, he can win.

Don Krieg deploys his ultimate weapon, the Great Battle Spear, which produces explosions scaled to the power of each strike. Luffy breaks off the tip of the Battle Spear, undercutting Krieg's advantage and setting up his comeback.

The color cover shows Sanji as head chef of the Baratie with Luffy as his kitchen assistant feeding an alligator coworker. The chef uniform Sanji wears here later returns as one of his alternate costumes in the game One Piece: Unlimited Adventure. The chapter belongs to the Baratie Arc and centers entirely on the duel between Luffy and Krieg.
