Chapter 139: Giant Barrier

Tatsumaki abruptly spits up blood and wonders whether she has pushed herself too far. Reading the drop in her strength, Psykos throws down a smokescreen to slip away, and the fusion with Orochi reshapes into a jet meant to siphon blood from the city's residents. When the enemy's presence splits into seven, mimicking a trick Tatsumaki had used earlier, she summons a vast psychic wall to pen the monster in. Psykos aims a laser at the esper's heart, gambling that holding so large a barrier must consume all her focus, but the shot only hits a decoy, which lets Tatsumaki pinpoint where Psykos truly is. At that moment Drive Knight arrives and enters the battle.

Within the barrier, Drive Knight trades blows with the fusion. Genos reaches the other S-Class heroes now grounded below, updates them on the situation, warns that Tatsumaki is close to her limit, and requests their help before rejoining the fight in the air.

Having pulled Narinki's Private Squad, Zombieman, and Iaian out from underground, Pig God resurfaces and disgorges them from his stomach, stunning Child Emperor. Once Iaian comes to, Pig God briefs him, and the swordsman thanks him for the rescue before reuniting with Atomic Samurai, who begins plotting how to hit the airborne enemy.

Elsewhere, Tanktop Master frees civilians pinned by debris and astonishes onlookers by heaving a concrete slab no one else could budge. A medical helicopter is turned back by Tatsumaki's unseen wall, tipping off Tanktop Master that she is fighting. After asking Lightning Max where she is, he tells Mumen Rider to keep up the rescue work while he heads for the Monster Association base, then uproots a transmission tower and swings toward the headquarters on its cable.

The chapter ran in Volume 28 under the VIZ Media title Giant Barrier. In its original Tonari no Young Jump printing it carried no title at all; the name was assigned only when it was collected in the volume. The bonus page shows Atomic Samurai and Iaian standing back to back with blades drawn, a master and student projecting calm assurance.
