Chapter 22

Three days on from the meteor catastrophe, Saitama and Genos relax in their apartment while the news covers the wreckage the falling fragments left behind. Genos remarks that the ruin could have been contained had the Hero Association turned to Saitama from the outset. He then reveals that the event reshuffled the rankings: Saitama vaulted from Class-C rank 342 all the way to rank 5, Genos climbed a single spot to Class-S rank 16, and even Bofoi edged up to rank 6. The scale of his own jump leaves Saitama stunned, and after a brief exchange about Disaster Levels he heads out for a walk.

Roaming Z-City and taking in the ruined streets, Saitama is confronted by Tanktop Tiger, who accuses him of stealing credit for the meteor he did not earn. Saitama brushes the charge aside, which only enrages Tiger, and he summons his brother. Tanktop Black Hole arrives, and the pair brand Saitama a cheat. When Saitama asks what they intend to do about it, Black Hole chooses humiliation over force. Drawing a deep breath, he bellows that Saitama is to blame for the town's ruin, and passing citizens gather and gradually take up the cry. Black Hole demands that Saitama resign, and the crowd agrees.

From a nearby rooftop, Bang watches with disappointment, deciding he would rather see Saitama walk away from the Association than be corrupted by it. Black Hole then stages his finish, feigning shock as though Saitama meant to strike the onlookers, and both brothers announce they will protect the people by putting him down. Unwilling to watch what he calls a public execution, Bang departs. Tiger charges first and is swatted off into the distance with a flick. Black Hole seizes Saitama's hands, only to crumple as his own are crushed, and he begs forgiveness, admitting he lied. Saitama cuts him short and tells the crowd plainly that the damage was indeed his fault, inviting anyone with a grievance to say it to his face, adding that he does not fight for admiration but simply because he wants to. Days later, a Mysterious Being is glimpsed rising from the sea.

The meteor aftermath lifts Saitama to Class-S rank 5, with Genos and Bofoi also climbing. The Tanktop brothers attempt to turn the grieving public against Saitama and demand his resignation. Bang refuses to witness the spectacle and leaves. Saitama effortlessly defeats both brothers, then owns responsibility for the destruction while rejecting the crowd's approval. A Mysterious Being emerges from the ocean.

Voices, read Koe, is the twenty-second chapter of the manga, collected in Volume 4 and released on April 4, 2013 as part of the Giant Meteor Arc. It draws on webcomic chapters 22 and 23 and was adapted in Episode 7 of the anime. It follows Giant Meteor and precedes Threat from the Sea, with the Tonari numbering listing it as 27.
