Deep Sea King

Warning sirens ring out across the city, and the broadcast announces that the Seafolk threat has been reclassified as a Demon-level disaster, with residents urged to flee. Unbothered by the panic, the Deep Sea King keeps advancing through the abandoned streets. Watching from a safe distance, Lightning Max sizes up the invader before the monster materializes right behind him and forces an engagement.

The clash proves badly lopsided. Max cannot land anything meaningful and is beaten down, nearly finished off beneath a toppling structure. Puri-Puri Prisoner reaches the scene just in time to pull him out of danger. In the confusion it comes to light that Speed-o'-Sound Sonic has been trailing the Prisoner, and the assassin offers a mocking word of thanks for the opening that let him get away.

The Hero Association escalates the Seafolk invasion to a Demon-rated emergency and calls for evacuation. Lightning Max confronts the Deep Sea King and is thoroughly outmatched, losing the fight outright. Puri-Puri Prisoner intervenes to rescue Max from a collapsing building. Sonic is revealed to have followed the Prisoner into the danger zone and uses the moment to make his escape.

This is the twenty-fourth chapter of the series and belongs to the Sea Monster Arc, printed in Volume 4 and released on May 16, 2013. Its events are adapted in Episode 8 of the anime. The original online edition of the chapter carried a double-page spread across pages 48 and 49, which was later reworked into two separate double spreads covering pages 48 to 49 and 50 to 51.
