Chapter 72

The announcer reveals that Gouketsu once won the very first Super Fight, and Gouketsu explains why he vanished years ago. Orochi had beaten him in combat but spared his life on the condition that he serve the Monster Association, an offer sweetened by the enormous power the Monster Cells could grant. With his tale told, Gouketsu gives the martial artists a stark choice: become monsters or die. Rosie immediately devours a cell and lunges at the wounded Dave, only for Choze to break her neck and swallow a cell himself. Transformed, Choze hurls Jakumen from the ring, and Benpatsu, Hamukichi, and Volten follow suit by eating cells. Suiryu, meanwhile, asks a nearby civilian whether she would date him if he beats the monsters, and her nod gives him the resolve to fight.

Suiryu wades into the transformed fighters and quickly puts down Benpatsu, Hamukichi, and Volten, but the monstrous Choze proves a far harder challenge. Goading Choze into a rage, Suiryu forces him to unleash a horn blast meant to wipe out the entire arena, which Suiryu manages to deflect before finishing him off. He then turns to Gouketsu, who calls killing such a talent a waste and offers him a high rank and an easy life among the monsters. Suiryu briefly seems to consider it, even raising a cell to his mouth to the dismay of the watching fighters, before rejecting the idea of becoming something as hideous as Gouketsu and striking. Gouketsu answers with one crushing blow that appears to leave Suiryu gravely hurt.

Gouketsu is revealed as the first Super Fight champion and recounts his recruitment by the Monster Association. Several fighters eat Monster Cells and transform, and Choze kills Rosie before mutating. Suiryu defeats the transformed fighters, including the powerful Choze, then refuses Gouketsu's offer to join the monsters and is struck down by a single devastating blow.

Released in two parts on February 10 and February 24, 2017, this seventy-second chapter is part of the Super Fight Arc and opens Volume 14. Its Japanese title, Kaijin-ka, is rendered by Viz as Monsterization. The events are adapted in Episode 20 of the anime, and Fubuki appears on the cover.
